APMP or PRINCE2... PRINCE2 or APMP...

This is a question we get asked a lot, which is best? What’s the difference? Which one should I do? In a future article we are looking at exactly this question and going through the main differences between the 2 methodologies but for those who can’t wait until then I did pin down Tim O’Connor our lead Project Management trainer the other day and he had this to say:

"APMP complements the PRINCE2® method by focusing on the tools and techniques that a Project Manager ought to be equipped with. PRINCE2 states, for example, that a project ought to be monitored; APMP picks up from this and provides skills that show how a project can be monitored (for instance, milestone charts and earned value management). APMP also addresses the 'softer' elements needed in a job, such as communication and negotiation skills. The combined content of both courses ought to provide a more rounded picture of the skills required in project management and make the Project Manager more confident in their work."

Previously taking both qualifications as Tim suggests could be seen as somewhat of a luxury, 10 days out of the office for one is a big ask before we start talking about the financial viability but now there is a fresh new solution. The APM have released an APMP for Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner course, it was launched on the 28th July so if hot off the press.

The course essentially allows a fast track route for those who have passed the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam within the last 5 years or looking at it another way is still valid. How does this help you? Well the new APMP for PRINCE2 Practitioners course is cut down from 5 to 3 days and the exam from 3 to 2 hours!

Tempted? Drop an email to enquiries@quanta.co.uk to be added to the wait list and be amongst some of the very first people to sit this course. I have been told we will be scheduling dates in the next couple of weeks and by emailing us you will be the first to know about them!
